International Cotton Round Trials

The Bremen Cotton Round Trial is an international comparative test that serves to harmonize the results of different laboratories. Approx. 200 laboratories of the cotton industry, trade and research take part in it. Participants receive samples of raw cotton from Faserinstitut Bremen (FIBRE) four times a year, which is tested with available test appliances. The results of the measurements are passed on to FIBRE and evaluated there. Every laboratory receives a code number to maintain confidentiality. The complete analyses of all laboratories are conveyed to the participants. This enables them, if necessary, to make corrections of their appliance settings or measurement methods.

The following fiber properties are examined:

•    fineness / maturity (Micronaire)
•    fiber strength (Pressley, Stelometer, HVI)
•    batch elongation (Stelometer, HVI)
•    clamping length (Fibrograph, HVI)
•    pile length (Kammstapelgerät, Almeter, AFIS)
•    share of short fibers (Kammstapelgerät, Almeter, Fibrograph, HVI, AFIS)
•    maturity (FMT, Fibrograph, microscope, AFIS, NIR)
•    fiber fineness (FMT, gravimetric test, AFIS, fiber shape)
•    color (HVI)
•    neps (AFIS)
•    contamination (HVI, AFIS)

The Bremen Cotton Round Trial is an international service organized by FIBRE and financed by the Bremen Cotton Exchange. It is free of charge for all participants.
