Staff Structure

The Faserinstitut presently employs a scientific and technical staff of 30. Our 15 scientific employees - engineers of various disciplines, chemists and material scientists - make up a highly qualified team. Together with material testers (textile) laboratory assistants and technicians, they work on interdisciplinary issues in the area of fibers, their manufacture and application as well as on tests commissioned from different fields.

Scientific Staff
Our scientific staff is made up of engineers in textile technology, mechanical engineering, process engineering, material sciences and aerospace. In addition, chemists are employed in our competency of Biobased Materials / Sustainability and Fiber Development and Fiber Bionics. This broad basis enables us to work on interdisciplinary issues that often arise when working together on fiber materials, manufacturing processes and modifications as well as applications from diverse products and branches. This collaboration is cultivated by a pronounced communication and creation of project teams at the institute. The Test Center provides an additional common interface for our customers as well as for internal jobs. The short distances within the Institute encourage the reciprocal communication of laboratory and research.

Technical Staff
Mainly material testers, laboratory workers and technicians are employed at the test laboratory. Our employees have long-standing experience in the processing of commissioned tests and in the analysis of issues coming from research and special tests. Only the high qualification of our staff is a guarantor for the excellent standing of our laboratory in the performance of cotton round trials and in the testing of materials for the aerospace industry.

Further Education and Training
The further education and training of our staff is a high priority. External and internal training takes place on a regular basis. Conferences, colloquia and other specialized events are additionally used for training. Particularly the close cooperation with the university and work with a number of institutes and research institutions on the campus furthers the qualifications of our staff. The Faserinstitut trains material testers together with other organizations of the university.

Students
Students of production technology (mechanical and process engineering) support our staff with seminar papers, diploma theses and project work. The scientific quality of this work is guaranteed by being supervised. Guest scientists are always welcome.
