Fiber Technologies
Functionalized synthetic and natural fibers for technical textiles
The competence field Fibre Technologies focuses on the development and research of functionalized synthetic and natural fibers that are specially designed for technical textiles. The focus here is not on clothing or home textiles, but on applications in the industrial and technical sectors.
This includes the design of new types of fiber structures, such as porous hollow fibers, as well as primary spinning processes such as melt and solution spinning for fibre manufacturing. The targeted functionalization and modification of polymers is used to adapt the manufacturing and processing properties as well as the properties for the corresponding application. Compounding is also considered as an advance process step for the creation of customized materials. There is also a particular focus on the use of bio-based and biodegradable polymers as well as the use and development of recycled materials. In addition, filaments are being developed specifically for use in 3D printing.
