Fiber and Filament Development

Fiber Development focuses on research in the field of technical yarns made from new polymer raw materials and functionalized polymers for special applications in the technical sector as well as the corresponding process development. For this, standard, technical, high-performance and bio-based materials are first characterized with regard to their spinning behaviour in order to evaluate their spinnability and to define the process parameter window. Melt and solvent spinning are available for spinning the filaments and fibers. In addition, filaments are being developed specifically for use in 3D printing. The focus here is on developing filaments with properties adapted for 3D printing as well as investigations of processing behavior. Through targeted functionalization and modification of the polymers for fibers and filaments, the manufacturability, processability and properties are adapted for the corresponding application.
