Liquid Composite Molding

Liquid Composite Moulding (LCM) processes are a widely used manufacturing techniques for fibre reinforced plastics. During the manufacturing process a dry preform gets impregnated by the liquid resin. The material is cured after the wetting process. The term LCM covers various processes, such as pultrusion, vacuum infusion or resin transfer moulding (RTM). Because of this, LCM can be used for prototyping and also be scaled up to large series. Scientific questions arise with regard to preforming approaches using tailored fibre placement (TFP), material characterisation, process monitoring and quality assurance as well as process and part simulation.
